Thank you for promoting your child’s involvement at Temple Israel. These are the years that matter most, and your teens will come to thank you for this later in life. (Shown above: 2022 teen trip to NYC)

Teen Night

Temple Israel’s teens connect for social programs, community service, travel opportunities and the chance to take a break from the intensity of school. In a place where Jews are the minority, this is a place where teens can just be themselves. In addition to hangouts, trips and special programs, Teen Night each week begins over dinner with the Rabbi and Lauren Trexler. The teens then either discuss current events and issues affecting teens or have outings, such as escape rooms or trampoline parks.

In 5784 (2023-24), the Temple teens once again became involved with NFTY-NEL (the Reform Jewish Youth Movement in the Northeast Lakes region). NFTY offers opportunities for our students to connect with other Jewish students. In particular, NFTY’s Northeast Lakes Region includes Ontario Canada; northern New York; Cleveland, OH and its suburbs; and Erie, PA.

Teen Night is open to students from the 9th to 12th grades. They meet on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 7:30pm.

Please contact our Director of Education, Lauren Trexler to sign up for or inquire about Teen Night.

Confirmation

The rabbi speaks with high school seniors (12th grade) about their desires for confirmation. This is an opportunity for them to consider the traditions (and possibly rewrite the traditions) for their confirmation year. This is not only an attempt to keep our students engaged beyond 10th grade when most congregations hold confirmation; it allows the confirmation ceremony to become what many churches refer to as a “baccalaureate” for the opportunity to bless our students on the bimah as they face their secular transition to adulthood.
